Sandy Skinner - Pastor
Rev. Sandra (Sandy) Skinner has been a licensed pastor with the United Methodist Church since 2012. Currently she serves at Oakwood First United Methodist Church since 2014.
Pastor Sandy has a teaching approach to her sermons by which she guides her congregation to an in depth look at Scripture, looking at both what was happening at the time it was written and it how it might point to recognizing Jesus Christ in our lives today. She has been married to her husband, Dan Skinner for 31 years. They have a son, daughter, son-in-law, and four grandchildren. In her free time, Sandy enjoys crocheting, reading and spending time with her family.
Pastor Sandy also serves as the Vice Chair for the North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council; Co-Leader of a group connecting 10 other area United Methodist Churches; Co-Founding member of the newly formed Oakwood Ministerial Alliance (OMA); and periodically serves as Assistant Spiritual Director for Walk to Emmaus Retreats.
David Travis - Worship Leader
David began playing piano at age six. By age ten, he was playing organ in his home church in Dayton, Tennessee. He studied music at Bryan College in Dayton, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. While majoring in Piano Performance, he also played percussion in both the UTC marching band and orchestra. He also sang with the Chattanooga Singers.
Currently, David leads our worship at Oakwood First UMC and sings with the Emory Chorus.
David loves animals, gardening, and spending time on his family's farm.
Cindy McEver - Administrative Assistant
Cindy has enjoyed serving as Administrative Assistant here at Oakwood for 13 years. She is a family person and homebody. She has been married to her husband, Matt, for 25 years, while raising a son and daughter, along with 4 inside rescue black cats and all of the neighborhood cats that manage to find her doorstep, keeping her busy with the Feral Cat Program of Georgia. She enjoys puttering in the garden, yard, watching her bird feeders, dabling in crafts and painting, listening to music.
